General Information
The Town of Dover cares about your dog’s health and safety!
Dogs over the age of four months must be licensed in the Town of Dover and licenses must be annually renewed through the Town Clerk’s Office or Online.

The Town Clerk's Office is open during regular business hours from Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Apply for New License
Residents can apply for Dog Licenses by mail or in-person at the Town Clerk’s Office, located at:

Please download and print the application below (applicable for a new license or annual renewal), complete, sign and submit with a copy of the dog’s current rabies vaccination information and annual fee.
Annual Fees
Spayed or Neutered Dog: $11.00 per year (with $1.00 per year discount for residents 60+ years); to renew for 2 or 3 years, multiply the number of years by annual fee applicable.
Unspayed or Unneutered Dog: $16.00 per year (with $1.00 per year discount for residents 60+ years); to renew for 2 or 3 years, multiply the number of years by annual fee applicable.
Therapy & Service Dogs: Licensed at no cost (with documentation).
License Renewals
If the dog’s rabies vaccination has expired, you need to renew by mail or in-person at the Town Clerk's Office, located at 126 East Duncan Hill Road, Dover Plains, New York 12522. Please download and print the application at the bottom of this page, complete, sign and submit with a copy of the dog’s current rabies vaccination information and annual fee.
If your dog’s rabies vaccination is current, you can renew your Dog License online. For online renewals, a credit card vendor’s convenience surcharge of $1.75 is automatically added to the renewal charge at the time of the transaction. Allocated Revenue
Revenue from new dog licenses and annual renewals help maintain the Town’s dog shelter and defrays the cost of a part-time Dog Control Officer who helps residents recover lost dogs, rescues abused and abandoned dogs, and protects the public from dangerous dogs.
